Volunteer

For over 20 years, Africa Mission Services (AMS) has been hosting volunteer groups. From the moment your group arrives in Kenya, AMS has the logistics taken care of. From organizing transport, accommodations in Nairobi and at Mara West Camp, to food, safaris, and preparations for the planned development projects. Having hosted well over 100 groups, AMS is an expert in facilitating volunteers to make the most out of their limited time.

Africa Mission Services realizes that when it comes to volunteer work one must be considerate of the local culture and not to create a welfare society. In an effort to promote development, AMS works closely with the Maasai community to seek their needs and not promote our own. It is our philosophy that if you provide a community with health care, education, and clean water – you give them the greatest gift – the gift of health and a choice in their future.

Africa Mission Services hosts groups of various size and composition from church affiliations, schools, corporate, medical, family, and friend groups. It is the one thing we all have in common that draws us together – the desire to serve. Whether a skilled professional or an energetic youth, there is opportunity for all to get involved. Potential projects include medical work – either at the AMS Community Health Clinic and Birth Center or through mobile medical clinics, dental care, construction, children’s programs, and more. There is something for everyone!

Some might ask, “wouldn’t more get accomplished if we just sent the money rather than spend so much coming on an international mission trip?” What we have found is that the relationships formed between the locals and volunteers often makes a bigger impact than the “work” done. These relationships open the world for these young people, causing them to feel special and making them dare to dream. Most will go home feeling that while they came to bless someone else – it was them who was truly blessed and whose eyes were opened to a whole new world.

Coordinating a Mission Trip

Where does my money go?

We wouldn’t be able to accomplish this without the support of our volunteers from around the world. - AMS
At AMS we are proud of the work we do and we want you to be assured that we are good stewards of the funds you trust to us. Less than 6 percent of all the funds raised are spent on administrative costs and fundraising. We wouldn’t be able to accomplish this without the support of our volunteers from around the world.

If you would like to support a specific project we are happy to designate your funds. We never remove funds from a designated project unless that project is completed. For example, if you give to build a school and there is money left after the school is built, that money is transferred to another building project or used to supply things like desks to the school.

When you give a gift please clearly designate your project, such as “student tuition” or “water project”. You can also make our treasurer very happy with a gift marked “most needed” and your project will go to an underfunded project.

If you have questions about how your funding is being used, please contact us, we are always happy to hear from our donors.
